apeman a80

Are you looking for a reliable action cam? Whether you’re the sort of person who wants to capture all their thrills and spills out on the waves, or simply want to look for a solid camera and video recorder which takes in all your holiday highlights, there are plenty of great choices out there. However, one of the best – undoubtedly – is the Apeman A80.

I’ve been looking around for a fantastic action Cam for a while now. The market for these cameras has really exploded in the last few years, and while plenty of hikers and backpackers make use of their phones and everyday cameras to capture their journeys, there are actually plenty of reasons why investing in a specific action cam makes more sense.

The Apeman A80 is a solid little beast of a camera, offering leading technology and plenty of durability. When you think about heading out to the great outdoors with a camera for the first time, you should probably set up a plan of action to really take care of your tech. I’d wager you’re probably not willing to take a $1,500 iPhone up the Rockies any time soon!

Therefore, I thought I’d set up a quick review for the A80 and to show you why you really need a top action cam for all your outdoor exploits. I’ll break down what you should be looking for in the best action cameras, before getting to the meat of the matter – the A80 itself.

Apeman A80 Action Camera Buyers Guide

Ok – while I’m going to spend much of this review actively looking at the A80 cam in detail, its worth considering why you should get an action cam in the first place. What’s more, if you’re only just starting to toy with the idea, it’s worth looking at some of the factors and features which are likely to influence your choice.

So – after you’ve read my full review of the Apeman A80, make sure to take these factors into account while looking for the perfect action cam. If the A80 doesn’t suit your specific needs, it’s a good idea to know what to look for in the competition.

Camera Quality

This is extremely important. In this day and age, if you’re really going to capture the best of your surroundings, you’re going to need a camera that’s of premium quality – in terms of build. I’ll come to image quality shortly!

Your camera is going to need to be robust and ready to take a knock or two. It’s going to need to withstand accidental drops and shocks, too. You never know quite where your bike or hiking trail is going to lead you. What’s more, if you are running or riding along at a heady pace, you are going to need a camera that catches up with you.

Image and Footage Quality

Of course, these are extremely important factors to look for. The best action cams are going to offer you 4K footage capture – there may be some out there which go even further and offer you 8K, but these are few and far between right now! 4K is largely the popular standard which has taken over from 1080p in recent years, meaning that you can always rely on this tech standard to deliver fantastic quality video.

Also, make a point of looking into how many frames per second, or FPS, your camera is likely to capture. The more the better, as this will mean that you capture more accurate video for playback at a later date.

Of course, do also look for capture quality, too. Your photos will measure in megapixels, and the more, the better. 15 to 20MP tends to be a good range to opt for, though again, there are a handful of cameras which go above and beyond.

Angles and Width

You should also look for an action cam that offers you a variety of angle options. You might want to capture footage in letterbox format, widescreen, or otherwise. Some cameras, like the A80, will even let you take action shots from different angles, meaning that it doesn’t always have to take video and photos from the same approach time and again.

Waterproofing and Resistance

Action cams, as stated, are built to withstand an awful lot. This is likely to include water and variable depths, in the main. For example, if you are going to go diving or swimming, you should make sure to look for an action cam which is going to resist water down as deep as you need it to go. 30M tends to be a good depth to travel.

Look for an IP rating where appropriate – as this will tell you how deep your camera can go before it starts to succumb to water.

Camera Features

Of course, an action cam needs a stack of great features to compete with professional systems elsewhere. For example, you might look for an action cam which offers time lapse technology. This will allow you to take scattered images which paste into a single video. It’s a great directorial technique which could lead to some seriously entertaining footage.

You could use a time lapse feature, for example, to record nature footage over a long period of time. It’s a great way to see nature up close after the event, making it a superb feature for anyone keen to get a closer look at the wild world around us.

apeman a80 camera features

Of course, all good cameras should be easy to move around and carry. Action cams, more so than many others, are likely to give you plenty of flexibility. A great action cam should be lightweight and will likely come with its own carry case, meaning that you never have to worry about packing it loose and letting it come to any potential harm.

Action cams are great for taking on the go whether or not you are in the market for a camera that’s built for sports and outdoor adventuring. They tend to be great choices for people who want to simply take a lightweight camera with them that’s not attached to a phone, or which is unlikely to be clunky or awkward to use on the move.

You should also check that your action cam is likely to connect easily to your given devices. How does your camera store images and videos? Make sure that – whether it stores via SD card or lets you hook up via USB – you’re going to find it easy enough to transfer photos and footage in between your devices. Some cameras will even come with WIFI built-in, which means you might be able to transfer pictures and footage across wirelessly.

Do I Need an Action Cam?

It’s always a good idea to look for an action camera if you know that you are going to want photos and footage of a pretty adventurous holiday. These cams are built for outdoor sports, hiking, swimming, and biking. They are lightweight and easy to manage on the go and will protect against shocks to ensure that it still performs as you expect long after your journey has ended.

You’re going to need an action cam if you are going anywhere that is likely to see you do serious damage to your phone or everyday camera. What’s more, these cameras come equipped with some seriously impressive tech – meaning that you might find some of the action features and tweaks stand apart from everyday cameras for what you actively need.

Apeman A80 Review

APEMAN A80 Action Camera 4K 20MP Wi-Fi Sports Cam

The Apeman A80 is a solid little action cam which, while light in weight, is incredibly durable. It will withstand around 40M in terms of waterproofing, which from the off should tell you that it is great for swimming and diving with.

It offers 4K video capture at 24 FPS, with the ability for you to switch down to 1080p and 60FPS if you prefer. You’ll also benefit from four different viewing angles, meaning that you can take shots and footage at 70, 110, 140 and 170 degrees. It’s good to get a different perspective on things, I find!

What does seem to set the A80 apart from the pack a little is its fantastic modes and unique camera tech. You can set the camera to diving mode if you are going for a dip, or you can set it to car mode if you want to capture the world around you while you are on the move.

The time lapse feature is a really nice touch – not even some of the higher-end cameras out there have this tech built-in – meaning that if you want to capture nature as it unfolds before your eyes, you absolutely can.

You also get a nice carry bag with accessories included, meaning that it’s easy enough to take with you and pack up again when all is said and done.

✅ Pros:

  • Really durable and reliable on the go – comes with a really solid case
  • Very easy to take around with you from adventure to adventure
  • WIFI function means wireless connectivity – great for moving footage and photos around
  • Lots of different modes and quality choices makes for a really flexible camera

➖ Cons:

  • Some users state that resetting the time and date frequently is a bit of a hassle
  • There is some debate over whether or not the quality you get is true 4K – but you get great results all the same

My experience with the A80 has been really positive. What I also love about this action cam is that it’s really reasonably priced. Some of the leaders in terms of action cam hardware and tech can expect you to pay out handsomely for similar quality photos and footage.

It’s clear that a few people have mixed feelings, but as an experienced adventurer, I really think this camera is going to stick with you providing you treat it with respect. Why wouldn’t you, honestly?
